On May 11 the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein took part at a press conference during his mission to Uzbekistan. 

On May 11, 2017, at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry were held talks with the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Center, Marcel Peško.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrives in Beijing, capital of China, May 11, 2017, to pay a state visit to China and attend the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. 

On May 10 the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein as part of his Uzbekistan visit met with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber N. Ismayilov.

Today the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping has departed for China on a state visit on May 11-13, 2017.

In January-March, the Consular Office of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and the consular missions issued visas to 52,224 foreign nationals, of which 19,197 tourist and 8,613 business visas, the Tourism Development Committee said referring to the Foreign Ministry.

On May 10, 2017 the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, UzA said.

The delegation of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), headed by the High Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein took part in the civil forum titled "Human Rights and Cooperation" which took place at the Development Strategy Center today.

Today the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, who arrived in Uzbekistan on a visit, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his Yashnabad district visit on Saturday made an unannounced visit to the family polyclinic №32, Akhborot news program on Uzbekistan TV channel reported.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a state visit to China on May 11-13, UzA said. Shavkat Mirziyoyev will meet with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang and other leaders, where they are expected to discuss the state and prospects for advancing the bilateral ties.

On May 6 Shavkat Mirziyoyev in order to “familiarize himself with socio-economic development and to inspect ongoing projects” visited Tashkent’s Yashnabad district. The first destination of the visit was Toshkent Kogozi LLC (transl. Tashkent Paper), UzA said.

The monument to the blacksmith Shaakhmed Shamakhmudov's family lived a new birth when it was inaugurated in the Park of Amity (former Babur Park), after being brought back on May 1 from the city outskirts to where it was removed in 2008.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev by his May 5 decree appointed Kochkarov Bahrom Tulkinovich to the post of chairman of the Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, the committee said in a statement.

Vladimir Norov has been appointed Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

On May 4 Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree to rename Tashkent airport after the late President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

In the end of April 2017, the British Ambassador to Uzbekistan visited the Republic of Karakalpakstan. This was an intensive and multifaceted trip, and the Ambassador was able to familiarise himself with the life of the Republic and the opportunities and challenges facing its people. He was accompanied throughout by Karakalpakstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and International Trade.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 2 signed a decree creating a 24-hour free-to-air O'zbekiston 24 (Uzbekistan 24) news and analytical TV and radio channel parented by the flagship National Television and Radio Company (NTRC), a source in the government said.

As reported earlier on May 2 was held the second meeting of the International Press Club which was devoted to the activities of the internal affairs bodies.

A delegation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, headed by Zeid bin Ra'ad al-Hussein (the High Commissioner) will reportedly pay an official visit to Uzbekistan on May 10-12, 2017.
