Qahramonjon Olimov has asked to leave the supervisory council of Anorbank, the bank’s press service said.

Olimov filed the request on Oct. 2, and shareholders will consider removing him from the council at a general meeting on Oct. 28, the bank said.

The bank said its capital increase plan should no longer depend on circumstances linked to an individual shareholder. It said it is carrying out the steps required under legislation and corporate procedures to conduct an additional share issue and raise capital.

Anorbank said it continues to operate as usual, meet its obligations to customers and keep all core banking services running.

In September, it emerged that Olimov had been put on an international wanted list. A corresponding notice appeared on the website of Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization.

The timing invites questions. The request, which the bank says was filed on Oct. 2, came weeks after the Interpol notice appeared, and the bank’s statement does not say what prompted it. It is unclear whether the move was Olimov’s own initiative or a way for the bank to distance itself from a man now on an international wanted list.
