The Central Bank unveiled plans to create a universal QR code for cashless payments, the Deputy Director of the Payment Systems Department at Central Bank Miraziz Mirhayotov said.

Currently, businesses often install several signs with QR codes for different payment apps at points of sale, which is inconvenient for customers, the official underscored.

“We want to create a single standard. This is how it work, a single QR code will be set up in a company, with clients being able to make a payment through the desired mobile app or payment service,” said Miraziz Mirhayotov, noting that it would take one year to implement the move.

According to the Central Bank, the volume of payments made through QR codes increased by almost 31% - to 441.79 billion soums in 2024.

The Central Bank highlighted the advantages of payment via QR codes, such as the lack of need to install POS terminals, which reduces costs for businesses, as well as automatic crediting of tax cashback thanks to the integration.
