Gafur Rakhimov became Interim President of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA). Rakhimov, vice-president of AIBA, a 66-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, was appointed new Interim president on Saturday, January 27, at an extraordinary congress in Dubai (UAE). He will be replaced by Franco Falcinelli, who worked in this position since November last year. The permanent president of AIBA will be elected at the congress of the association in November 2018 in Moscow.
Pakhtakor FC announced the transfer of Portuguese striker Esmaël Gonçalves, 26, on a two-year deal, the club said. Esmaël Gonçalves started in youth team of Portuguese Boavista. He played in Nice (France), St. Mirren (Scotland), APOEL (Cyprus), Veria (Greece), Anorthosis (Cyprus), Al-Ittifaq (Saudi Arabia) and Hearts (Scotland).
Uzbekistan will send two athletes to the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in South Korean PyeongChang, with over 6,500 athletes from 90 countries competing as the competitions which will take place from February 9 to 25.
