Uzbek sumo wrestler Durdona Abdujabborova won a bronze medal at the 25th World Sumo Championship, Dunyo said. Reportedly, this has been the first ever sumo world championship medal for Uzbekistan.

The SUumo World Championship took place on September 7-8 in Krotoszyn, Poland. About 200 athletes from 33 countries attending. The Uzbekistan team was represented by Abdukodir Usmonov (up to 80 kg), Makhmudjon Maksudov (up to 115 kg), Faridakhon Tulashova (up to 73 kg) and Durdona Abdujabborova (absolute weight).

In her category, Abdujabborova won two victories and suffered two defeats in fights with rivals from Estonia, Poland and Ukraine, which allowed her to finish third place with Airi Hisano of Japan. The silver medal was won by Katrin Frielseth from Norway, and the champion title was awarded to Irina Pasechnik from Ukraine.

Uzbekistan Sumo Federation was registered by the Ministry of Justice on October 12, 2023.
