The Central Election Commission at its May 10 meeting approved a decision to announce the start of the campaign for early presidential elections, which are scheduled for July 9.

“Hurrah for Comrade Stalin!”: An unsanctioned rally took place in Tashkent under the flag of the Uzbek SSR, and  the flag of the USSR. The event was attended by about 100-200 people who shouted "Hurrah for Comrade Stalin."

In the new Constitution of Uzbekistan, the number of provisions devoted to protection of human rights has been tripled. The first article of the document says that Uzbekistan is a state of law.

“Uzbekistan is a secular state, and it will remain such,” President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting with the heads of the chambers of parliament, parties, the judiciary and the executive on Monday.

President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on holding the early presidential elections for July 9, 2023. Shavkat Mirziyoyev also explained why this decision was necessary.

Today, on May 5, Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the next meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission.
