The Uzbek Interior Ministry in a statement announced the launch on May 1 of a hotline, which will field complaints about police abuse.
The decision was taken in pursuance of the recent Presidential decree which is aimed at “increasing the effectiveness of the work of police and unhindered reporting of police abuse by individuals and legal entities", the statement said.
The complaints will be handled by a Call Center under the newly created Office which will work with appeals from the public.
However the hotline’s short number is not yet known, the Ministry saying will announce before the end of the month.
