On August 18, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the presidential press service reported. The leaders discussed the situation in the region against the backdrop of events in Afghanistan.
"The counterparts reportedly underscored the closeness of the positions and approaches of the two countries in preventing the escalation of tension and violence in Afghanistan, as well as the comprehensive support of the international community for a political settlement of the Afghan conflict.
"The two leaders emphasized the importance of continuing close coordination and active interdepartmental interaction in the implementation of humanitarian operations to evacuate citizens by air from Afghanistan to Germany in transit through Uzbekistan.
The heads of state agreed to maintain regular contacts at the highest on the development of the situation in the region.
As reported earlier, more than 400 people were evacuated from Kabul to Tashkent in two flights of the German Armed Forces.
