The President's spokesman Sherzod Asadov, at today’s briefing took questions about the upcoming presidential elections on October 24.

America’s Voice’s journalist Navbahor Imamova asked when the election campaign in Uzbekistan would commence, whether Shavkat Mirziyoyev will run for presidency again and when he will personally announce his decision.

Sherzod Asadov said that work on organizing the presidential elections had already begun. According to him, Uzbekistan has repeatedly hosted the mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and is ready to conduct a preparatory process in accordance with advanced world standards, in particular, OSCE standards.

“This means that there is not much time left before the start of the pre-election process - this is the end of July, and we will have to wait until then to find out who will nominate his candidacy and when. First of all, it is the constitutional right of every candidate, every citizen,” he said.

Sherzod Asadov said that the role of the media in covering the electoral process will be important. “And we expect, first of all, from all media, including foreign media accredited in Uzbekistan, objectivity and impartiality,” he added.

He also noted that generally accepted accreditation procedures in accordance with the standards and requirements will be developed for foreign journalists. “All accredited foreign media can easily cover the electoral process in Uzbekistan,” Sherzod Asadov said.

In early June, the leader of the Milliy Tiklanish party, Alisher Kadirov, announced that the party plans to announce its presidential candidate in June. Milliy Tiklanish" confirmed that the party congress, at which it is planned to announce the candidate, is expected after June 24.
