A local government meeting was held today in Alat district of Bukhara province. At this meeting, Nargiza Nematova (female) was appointed as the new mayor of Olot district.

The new Bukhara province governor, Karim Kamalov, the first deputy of the President's adviser on public service and cooperation with state authorities, Kahramon Kuronbaev were also present in the meeting.

Earlier it was reported that Sherali Salomov, the former Alat district mayor, was appointed as the acting mayor of Qorakul district.

For the first time in Bukhara’s history province, a woman has been appointed as a mayor.

N. Nematova, 55, is a doctor-therapist. In 1991 she graduated from the Tashkent State Medical Institute. She has since 2004 served as deputy mayor of Alat district. During her career, she worked as a cardiologist, chief of the maternity department of the district central hospital, physician, and chief physician of the Alat district central hospital.

This the second female appointed to a district mayor job, earlier in February, Dilfuza Uralova was appointed as new mayor of Syrdarya’s Boyovut district. The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on several ocassions, said he would be promoting more female leaders stating they would make less corrupt and by way more responsible leaders than men.
