President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed a presentation on the progress of major transport and logistics projects, the presidential press service said.
The meeting focused on developing international transport corridors and expanding access to world markets through seaports.
Officials presented work on building logistics infrastructure with Uzbekistan's participation at the Caspian Sea ports of Aktau in Kazakhstan, Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan and Baku in Azerbaijan, and at Georgia's Black Sea ports of Poti and Anaklia.
An agreement has been signed to establish a logistics center at Poti, and a feasibility study is being prepared. Officials are also exploring participation in developing Anaklia and in building the Nakhchivan railway, which would provide access to the Turkish ports of Samsun and Istanbul.
The projects are intended to diversify export routes for textiles, chemicals, agricultural goods and mining and metallurgical products.
Mirziyoyev said the country's network of logistics centers also needs to expand to make effective use of the international corridors.
Officials reported on progress in carrying out earlier instructions to specialize the cities of Khanabad and Angren, and the districts of Yangiyul, Akhangaran, Alat and Termez, in transport and logistics.
A total of 17 logistics centers and terminals are planned in Tashkent city and in Tashkent, Andijan, Surkhandarya and Bukhara provinces. Participants discussed where to locate them, how to attract investors and secure financing, and how to provide the necessary infrastructure.
The presentation also emphasized digitalizing freight transport and reducing the shadow economy in the sector.
The unobserved economy still accounts for more than 42% of freight transport, officials said. The main problems are the lack of a single registry of domestic cargo vehicles, of electronic order processing, and of an electronic system that brings all transport services together.
Officials therefore proposed creating a single digital transport system, setting up a registry of carriers, and deploying electronic waybills and an aggregator service to receive orders.
They also considered expanding the exchange of electronic permits for international shipments and enabling real-time tracking of cargo. The measures are meant to make life easier for carriers, bring informal services into the legal economy and increase transparency in the sector.
Mirziyoyev stressed the need to set clear deadlines, funding sources and expected results for each project and to carry them out in coordination with one another. Officials were given instructions on the issues discussed.
