An Uzbek delegation carried out a working visit to Egypt from September 15 to 20, the Dunyo news agency reported.
The visit's main goal was to study Egypt's experience in developing desert land, making efficient use of water resources, and expanding livestock farming in arid regions.
The 224-member delegation, made up of government officials, farmers, and, met with Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam.
Talks focused on desert land development, the rational use of surface and groundwater, and water recycling and reuse.
Delegation members toured Elsewedy Wataniya to see modern pivot irrigation technology in action. Together with Egypt's Agricultural Research Center, they also explored the potential for growing high-yield varieties of wheat, corn, and desert-adapted rice — already cultivated in Egypt — under Uzbek conditions.
In Cairo, B2B meetings brought together agricultural representatives from both countries, drawing nearly 400 farmers, entrepreneurs, and company representatives.
Participants discussed direct cooperation opportunities in modern irrigation technology, livestock farming, feed production, agricultural technology, and investment projects.
Uzbek representatives also familiarized themselves with Egypt's "Mostakbal Misr" (Future of Egypt) project, examining its practical mechanisms for developing desert land, conserving water, and establishing agricultural production.
At a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, the two sides discussed how this experience could be applied in Uzbekistan, particularly in Navoi province.
The delegation visited experimental sites run by the National Water Research Center and the Agricultural Research Center to study water resource management, modern irrigation methods, and crop variety testing.
Talks with the heads of Arco Seeds and Elsewedy Wataniya covered applying Egyptian expertise in Uzbekistan, including pasture improvement and the introduction of technologies for growing and storing livestock feed.
The visit concluded with a set of practical priorities: water-saving technologies, desert land development, modern livestock farming, feed production, scientific research, digitalization, and private-sector cooperation.
The agreements reached are intended to help Uzbekistan draw on Egypt's experience to develop new land, expand agricultural production, and grow livestock farming in Navoi province and other desert regions of the country.
