The draft development of space activities in Uzbekistan decree has been published for public consultation. It notes that Uzbekistan possesses practical experience, intellectual resources and basic space infrastructure for the development of space research and technologies.

UzbekCosmos Agency for Space Research and Technologies to be created under the Cabinet of Ministers will be the industry regulator, which will be in charge of the development and implementation of national policies and strategic areas for the development and use of the space industry.

Scientific, Technical and Expert Council is proposed to be set up under UzbekCosmos, which will include experts of the ministries for ITs development, defense, innovation, state committees on land resources and geology and the Academy of Sciences.

It is expected that strategic decisions on development of the space industry will be made on the basis of the conclusions of the Scientific and Technical and Expert Council under the UzbekCosmos Agency.

The draft decree proposed that draft Space Activity Bill will be prepared until February 1, 2019 and a draft space industry development concept for 201–20,229 - until December 20, 2018.

It is proposed that the draft concepts would envisage construction of space infrastructure by using safe and ecofriendly technologies, as well as training of specialists in universities and training centers in Uzbekistan and abroad.

It is proposed to send Uzbek students and specialists for training and internships to Europe and Southeast Asia to the space training centers of the partner countries. In addition, the Department of Applied Space Technologies will be created at Tashkent State Technical University, National University of Uzbekistan and Tashkent University of Information Technologies.

As reported earlier in February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to develop space research and technology in Uzbekistan.

As part of the visit of the Russian president Putin to Uzbekistan in mid-October, RosCosmos corporation presented a project of trilateral cooperation between Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on the joint launch of a satellite.
