The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held talks at Kuksaroy residence after the official welcoming ceremony, the presidential press service reported. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit in the evening of September 4, this is first ever visit of a Egyptian leader to Uzbekistan.
Greeting the guest, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that his visit is a historic event in bilateral ties.
"We see in Egypt, one of the ancient centers of human civilization, a country with great potential. Our peoples have had bonds since ancient times. The new stage of practical bilateral cooperation is commencing as of today. We have identified huge untapped potential when preparing for this visit. This is evidenced by the US$ 400 million worth of deals that were reached at the business forum today. I am sure that the visit of the President of Egypt to Uzbekistan will yield great results in our partnership ties," Mirziyoyev said.
The two leaders noted the importance of advancing cooperation in the political, trade-economic, investment, innovation, scientific-technical, tourism and culture spheres. To this end the counterparts agreed to strengthen the legal framework, hold various level meetings and strengthen partnership ties.
The heads of state exchanged views on topical international and regional issues, focusing on strengthening regional security, countering international terrorism and religious extremism. It was decided to establish an exchange of experience, establish interdepartmental relations and form a joint working group in this area.
An agreement has been reached to unite efforts towards the establishment of lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and conduct political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs.
Mirziyoyev noted the readiness of Uzbekistan to export electrical, mechanical, metallurgical, chemical and petrochemical, light, food, agricultural and other products in demand to Egypt.
The Presidents noted the closeness and similarity of views on all issues discussed.
The President el-Sisi pointed to the possibility for supply of medicines, medical equipment, furniture, petrochemicals, marble, leather and plastic products and services to Uzbekistan.
An agreement was reached to intensify the work of the Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation and setting up of Uzbek-Egyptian Business Council to discuss joint projects and mechanisms for their implementation.
The possibility of launching flights between Tashkent, Cairo and Hurghada was considered.
An agreement was reached to establish cooperation between the University of Al-Azhar and other research institutions in Egypt with the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the International Research Center of Imam Bukhari and the Center for Islamic Civilization.
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi invited Shavkat Mirziyoyev to pay a visit to Egypt.
