Uzbekistan and India are expanding agricultural cooperation, with a particular focus on meat production and its export to the Uzbek market, the Agriculture Minister Ibrohim Abdurahmonov announced the development.
According to the minister, joint ventures have been established to bring relatively low-cost Indian meat into the Uzbek market, and new agreements have been reached in this area.
One of the key priorities is ensuring the meat meets halal standards and safety requirements. To that end, Uzbek specialists will travel to India to oversee the slaughtering and processing stages firsthand. The products will be certified under relevant international and halal standards before being exported to Uzbekistan.
The minister also noted that a trilateral logistics arrangement is being set up via Turkiye, specifically through the port of Mersin.
He further pointed out that agricultural trade turnover between Uzbekistan and India has more than tripled in recent years, and that new opportunities have emerged for Uzbekistan to export more than 30 types of products to the Indian market.
