Tashkent currently needs 75 schools and kindergartens, as well as 23 sports facilities, stated the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting on the capital's development Tuesday.
Due to population growth, the capital city needs more than 100,000 places in schools and kindergartens, he added.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev determined that mayors of Tashkent district shall on their own raise funds themselves and build one school, kindergarten, and sports facility each year. The remaining 15 schools and kindergartens, as well as 11 sports facilities, would be added to the yearly investment program.
He stressed the importance of attracting an additional $300 million next year for infrastructure projects without state guarantees.
Starting this year, the Tashkent Experience project, aimed at improving the quality of education, has been launched in one school in each district of Tashkent. As part of the program, 1,500 students in grades 7–11 were selected, studying IT, medicine, business, and engineering.
Reportedly, depending on students' academic performance, their teachers shall be paid a monthly salary of up to 20 million soums.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev has set the goal of expanding this experience and increasing the number of schools operating under this model to 24 next year and 33 by 2027.
