Oil-containing fluid spilt at M-25 gas field In Baysun district of Surkhandarya province. The release became known in early January after a video footage appeared on social media.

The site is located near well 604 at the field, where a gas leak with a high hydrogen sulfide content occurred on September 1, 2024, due to a man-made accident.

Footage shows a dark liquid bubbling up from underground. To prevent a spill, backwaters have been created nearby to collect the liquid. Some of it is transported to dug and lined ponds.

The area has now been fenced off to prevent trespassing.

The release occurred in two locations, 30 meters apart. The leak has stopped at the first point, but it continues at the second, which is located in the bed of a river. The Energy Ministry reported yesterday that cleanup efforts were underway.

The National Committee on Ecology has not yet commented on the situation.
