Uzbekistan will open its embassy in Minsk, the capital of Belarus,, with the appointment of an ambassador due in the near future, this was announced at yesterday’s meeting of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus were established in 1993. The Embassy of Belarus in Tashkent was opened in February 1994.
The sides also discussed the ways to expand Uzbek-Belarusian cooperation in various areas, as well as preparations for the visit of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Uzbekistan.
At the next meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission in Minsk, it is planned to approve the road map for trade and economic cooperation. Belarus also proposed to the Uzbek side to renew trade and economic cooperation agreement.
In 2017, the two-way trade between Uzbekistan and Belarus began to increase, with January-August figure doubling to that of 2016.
