A court in Tashkent has sentenced a young man to three days arrest for resisting a fare inspector on a public bus, the Ministry of Transport said.
The Chilanzar District Court for Criminal Cases heard the case on Sept. 24, the ministry's press service said.
The incident took place on Aug. 15. An inspector from the Tashkent Passenger Transport Monitoring and Control agency, a state body, asked the man to show proof of payment as he got off a bus. The passenger, "making various excuses and violating rules of public conduct, refused to comply with the inspector's demand and resisted," the ministry said. It released footage from the inspector's body camera.
The ministry noted that fare inspectors are considered public officials, and that assaulting, threatening or insulting them carries legal liability.
Since Sept. 1, bus passengers in Uzbekistan have been required to pay when boarding. Otherwise, the fare is treated as unpaid. The current fine for fare evasion is 44,000 soums.
