The signing ceremony of a joint development agreement to develop the Surum wastewater treatment plant in the Kuyichirchik district of the Tashkent province took place on August 13, the press service of the Uzsuvtaminot said.

It was attended by the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, executives of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions (SWS) and the acting chief of Uzsuvtaminot, Akhmad Suvonkulov.

The project provides for the construction of a modern sewage treatment facility with a capacity of 1 million m3 per day with a subsequent release of 1.5 million m3 on the territory of the Surum mahalla and a 42 km long sewer collector.

The project will be implemented by a consortium of companies, which also includes Suez (France) and Marubeni (Japan), selected as SWS technology partners.

The plant will be equipped with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and GIS (geographical information systems) systems to monitor and manage wastewater treatment and transportation processes.

As a result, the efficiency of the wastewater treatment process is expected to increase and the rational use of resources will be ensured and will help save more than 10 million kW of electricity.

The project will improve the sanitary and epidemiological condition of the Sergeli, Bektemir and Yangihayot districts of Tashkent and sewerage services for almost 1.5 million residents. More than 500 thousand citizens and 100 enterprises and organizations will have access to centralized sewerage services.

Akhmad Suvonkulov, who spoke at the event, noted that the successful implementation of the project will ensure effective and long-term cooperation. He also expressed readiness to implement other projects to develop the drinking water supply and sanitation system.
