Uzbek athletes, who qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will receive 100 million soums each (US$ 12,000), the National Olympic Committee said.
The committee said that athletes who qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games were paid 50 million soums.
“This practice works and it motivates the athletes. Uzbekistan was then represented by 70 athletes, ”the committee added.
The first Uzbekistan athlete to win a ticket to the Olympics 2020 was the tennis player Denis Istomin, who won gold at the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.
