To a question at the Uzbekistan-DPRK pre-match press conference whether Héctor Cúper was paying wages to the national team’s service staff, he replied:
- I never pay salaries to whomsoever. I sit myself on a salary. If I gave money to some employees, that does not mean I paid on behalf of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA). It simply means that I appreciated the work of those employees. And I did that at my own initiative. This has nothing to do with the salaries paid by the UFA. Neither am I trying to say that somebody has complained about salary or about conditions provided by the association.
The Uzbekistan national team staff were allegedly not handed any contracts and thus are not entitled for salary.
