The Cricket Federation of Uzbekistan (CFU) has been officially welcomed as a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), marking another milestone in the country’s growing engagement with world cricket.

The announcement was made during the ACC conference in Dhaka, where CFU Chairman Mr. Aziz Mihliev represented Uzbekistan. The decision recognises Uzbekistan as one of the newest cricketing nations in Asia and follows the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) acceptance of CFU as an official member in 2022.

Uzbekistan’s cricket scene has seen remarkable growth in recent years. Supported by grassroots initiatives from the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport’s governing body, the sport is taking root across schools, universities, and community clubs. CFU has embedded cricket into the curriculum of 253 sports schools nationwide, using translated ICC training materials to reach young players in all regions. Participation has grown quickly, with over 4,000 regular players from Tashkent to Surkhandaryo region now active in the sport

“Becoming part of the Asian Cricket Council is a historic step for Uzbekistan. It connects us with the wider Asian cricket community and strengthens our ability to grow the sport locally.” Mihliev stated.

“With the support of the ICC and ACC, we are committed to developing grassroots cricket, training local coaches, and providing more opportunities for young Uzbeks to experience this global sport.”

The CFU expressed its gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and government

officials for their continued support in advancing sports and the Olympic movement in Uzbekistan.

The membership places Uzbekistan among Asia’s recognised cricketing nations,

symbolised by the raising of the national flag at the ACC conference – a proud moment for the country and its sporting community.
