Dutch former football player and fitness coach, Chima Onyeike has joined Uzbekistan coaching staff, the Uzbekistan Football Federation announced in a statement.

The Uzbekistan head coach Samvel Babayan invited Onyeike to join his coaching staff due to frequent injuries in the Uzbekistan team and to raise the fitness of the players in a short space of time for Uzbekistan’s two remaining matches of the World Cup 2018 final qualifying round against China (August 31, Wuhan) and Korea Republic (September 5, Tashkent), the statement added.

Onyeike was born in Zeist, Netherlands; his father is Nigerian. After retiring from playing, Onyeike attended a sport's university to obtain his diploma in fitness. He then began work as a personal training, working with players such as Roy Makaay and Aleksandr Kerzhakov.

In July 2011 he became the assistant coach to Guus Hiddink at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

In June 2013 he became the fitness coach at Greek club PAOK. On 25 November 2014 he started to work as fitness coach for VfB Stuttgart.
