Andijan city mayor Bahromjon Khaydarov is accused of causing damage to state interests worth over 1.7 billion soums as a result of violation of the law during land acquisition, the Prosecutor General's Office said.

As part of the criminal case, the prosecutor's office of the Andijan province sent a request to open a criminal case against mayor Bakhromjon Khaydarov.

According to the provisional probe, the mayor allegedly violated the law and regulations on land acquisition with a total area of 19,618 sqm in eight cases in 2019-2020, causing damage to state interests worth of 1 billion 779 million soums, 160 thousand USD.

On the basis of these data, on February 3, the prosecutor's office submitted to the provincial council of people's deputies a proposal to deprive the mayor, who is also a deputy, of parliamentary immunity.

Under the law, the issue of depriving a deputy of immunity is to be decided by the council of people's deputies on the proposal of the prosecutor of the province, district, city, or a higher prosecutor, respectively, within 10 days. The decision of the council on the issue of giving consent to depriving a deputy of immunity is immediately sent to the relevant prosecutor.

But after 19 days, the deputies of the council have not yet considered this issue.
