An explosion occurred at a scrap metal collection point in Yangiarik district. The incident occurred on April 11. While the scrap metal was being unloaded, a shell that was among them exploded, killing 31-year-old O.B., who worked there.
The shells were purchased from military personnel in Amudarya district of Karakalpakstan.
News about the incident also surfaced on social networks. According to it, law enforcement officers and sappers arrived at the scene after the explosion. During the investigation, about 30 more shells were found at the point.
In a video circulating on the Internet, the mother of the deceased O.B. said that her son had been the breadwinner of the family, and her two children had now become orphans.
The mother asked for strict punishment for those who sold the shells and those who bought and brought them to the collection point.
Reportedly, the military prosecutor's office is currently investigating the case, and against the scrap metal collector, with the military personnel who sold the shells to him had been arrested.
