In line with Uzbekistan’s development strategy for 2022-2026, 15 new hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 868 MW will be built in the country, with 5 more operating HPPs to be modernized, the Ministry of Energy said.

As a result, from 2026, an additional 868 MW of generating capacity will be generated annually, including 7 additional HPPs with a total capacity of 173 MW in Samarkand, Surkhandarya and Tashkent provinces, which will be built in 2022.

In addition, in 2023, the modernization of 1 HPP in the Tashkent province and 2 in Kashkadarya and Andijan provinces with a total capacity of 29 MW will be completed, and in 2024, the modernization of 4 HPPs in Andijan, Namangan, Surkhandarya and Tashkent provinces with a total capacity of 122 MW will be completed.

Also in 2025-2026, 4 HPPs with a total capacity of 544 MW will be commissioned in Kashkadarya and Tashkent provinces. As a result, by 2026 the total capacity of the country's hydroelectric power plants will reach 2,920 MW.
