President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is meeting filmmakers at the Uzbekfilm studio, the president’s press service said, citing a sharp rise in state funding for the industry over the past decade.
He said the state budget allocated 218 billion soums for making films this year, compared with 10 billion soums in 2016. Over the past decade, two decrees and eight resolutions supporting the industry have been adopted, and the studio has been fully renovated.
As a result, the volume and quality of national films have grown and dozens of private film studios have entered the industry, the president said.
He said the studio holds the history of national cinema and the work of several generations of filmmakers, and he praised them for creating works of national art despite heavy political and ideological pressure in their era.
The president said the school created by Uzbekfilm continued after independence, with films such as “Abdullajon,” “Fields Left by My Father,” “Dilkhiroj,” “Vatan” and “Utov.” He recalled the studio’s state a decade ago and said that, from the first days of the reforms, particular attention was paid to reviving it.
