A man who works as a production training master at a technical college in Jarqo'rg'on district, Surxondaryo province, has been sentenced to five days of administrative detention for sexually harassing a minor student.
The incident took place at the college on Sept. 25. The man took a girl from his assigned group out of a physics lesson, after obtaining permission from the teacher. Once they were in a department room, he pulled the student toward him and made sexual advances. She resisted, ran from the room and returned to class.
After classes ended, the girl received a call while resting in the dormitory. The caller, using a different name, asked her to come to the gym. When she arrived, the staff member again made advances, offering various excuses. She fled when he took a phone call.
The student did not report the incident that day. "I was afraid of being shamed in front of everyone. Also, since our director was absent, I didn't trust the other staff to take action on this matter. When our director came back, I told them everything," she said in testimony.
In court, the man admitted that he had taken the girl out of class. He said he had asked her to help collect parents' applications regarding footwear that had not been issued to students, and denied making any sexual advances.
The court found that he had committed an offense covered by Part 1 of Article 41-1 of the Administrative Liability Code, which covers sexual harassment. He was sentenced to five days of administrative detention.
