Air quality in Tashkent may temporarily deteriorate during nighttime and morning hours through the end of the week, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change said.
Most of the city recorded “moderate” air quality under the international Air Quality Index (AQI) during the day on Oct. 6. After 8 p.m., conditions worsened, with the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” level recorded across a wider area overnight and in the morning. Some districts briefly registered “unhealthy” conditions.
The committee attributed the deterioration to unfavorable meteorological conditions that restricted the dispersion of pollutants.
“Wind speeds of around 1 meter per second and a strong nighttime temperature inversion contributed to reduced air exchange and vertical mixing,” the committee said.
It warned that similar conditions could recur temporarily during nighttime and morning hours through the end of the week.
The committee said the deterioration was linked to atmospheric conditions that limited the movement and dispersion of pollutants, rather than providing a broader assessment of the city’s air quality.
