A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old child in the city of Jizzakh killed himself after procedural steps were taken, the National Agency for Social Protection said in a statement.
A close relative of the child reported the case to law enforcement, the agency said, citing preliminary information. An inquiry and investigation are under way.
"At present, all details of the case, including the period, nature and other circumstances of the acts committed against the minor, are being examined by law enforcement agencies," the statement said.
On Oct. 5, the "Inson" social services center in Jizzakh opened a case for the child, who underwent an initial assessment and was provided with psychological support. The child is now in a safe place, and measures are being taken to protect the child's rights and legitimate interests, ensure safety and stabilize their mental state, the agency said.
A forensic examination has been ordered, and additional measures will be set based on its findings, the agency said.
Earlier the Senate has approved life imprisonment as a punishment for sexual crimes against children under 14.
