The World Rowing Championships are underway in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and on August 27 the Uzbek national team claimed a historic medal at the event.
In the lightweight men's double sculls (LM2x), the duo of Shakhzod Nurmatov and Sobir Safaraliev took gold — the first world championship gold ever won by Uzbek rowers at the senior level.
Speaking after the win, Nurmatov said the pair dedicated the title to Uzbekistan's 35th anniversary of independence.
Germany took silver in the event, while the United States claimed bronze.
