Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Passenger Transportation will deploy a women-only train carriage on the Almaty to Tashkent international route starting October 1, marking the first time such a carriage has run on this line, the 24.kz reported.
The company said the Almaty–Tashkent route plays a key role in developing passenger rail links between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Given the route's growing popularity and rising passenger numbers, officials decided to introduce a dedicated women's carriage on this line as well.
"This service has proven highly popular on domestic rail routes, too. Since it was deployed, more than 946,000 passengers have used women-only carriages," said Anuar Akhmetzhanov, the company chairman.
The train currently runs daily, departing Almaty station at 7:05 p.m. and arriving in Tashkent at 12:53 p.m. (Tashkent time); the return service departs Tashkent at 2:41 p.m. (Tashkent time) and arrives in Almaty at 8:51 a.m.
With this addition, the number of routes offering women-only carriages will rise to 14. Boys under the age of seven are permitted to travel in the women's carriage if accompanied by an adult. Tickets for these carriages are sold exclusively to women, and the carriages are staffed only by female attendants.
Tickets can be purchased at railway ticket counters or booked online through the official website, tickets.railways.kz. When booking, passengers should look for the "JN" designation, which indicates a seat in the women-only carriage. Ticket sales open 45 days before departure, giving passengers ample time to plan their trips in advance.
