The Navoi city administration has acknowledged that artificial intelligence technology was used in photographs depicting improvement works carried out in the Hayot neighborhood, and has issued an apology.
According to the administration, staff responsible for preparing and posting the material on social media had been "careless" in the process. AI elements were used during the design process in order to present the changes in the neighborhood in a "more visual and higher-quality format," and the material was published without undergoing proper review.
The city administration apologized for the incident and for the public's legitimate objections, and said the staff responsible for preparing the material had been formally reprimanded.
Officials noted that a range of genuine, practical work has in fact been carried out to improve living conditions for residents of the Hayot neighborhood. To demonstrate that the results are real rather than artificial, the administration's official statement was accompanied by current, unedited photo and video footage of the area.
The photo report on the work underway in Navoi's Hayot neighborhood was published by the city administration on August 2. Social media users noticed that certain details in the photos appeared to have been altered using AI technology — in particular, a worn wall, peeling plaster and neglected areas had been rendered in an almost pristine, refurbished state. When the images were run through an AI-detection service, they showed clear signs of having been digitally altered.
