Seven Uzbek citizens died in a drone attack on Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, on August 10, Uzbekistan's Consulate General in Kazan reported.
According to Tatarstan law enforcement, the attack on facilities in Nizhnekamsk killed 13 people and injured 39 others with varying degrees of severity.
The consulate general said seven Uzbek nationals were among the dead, identifying them only by initials: A.D.K., U.S.A., B.O.M., A.R.E., Kh.D.R., Kh.F.F. and I.D.F.
"The Consulate General expresses its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased citizens," the statement said.
The diplomatic mission said it was closely monitoring the situation and had established contact with local authorities and investigative agencies to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Once forensic examinations and the necessary official procedures are complete, the bodies of the deceased will be repatriated to Uzbekistan, the consulate general said.
On the morning of August 10, Tatarstan authorities reported a drone attack on industrial and civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk. According to the latest figures from the office of Tatarstan's head, 13 people were killed in the attack. Some 75 people sought medical treatment, 21 of whom were hospitalized; earlier reports had put the number of injured at 48.
A day of mourning for the victims was declared in Tatarstan on August 10.
Russian investigators opened a criminal case under the statute covering acts of terrorism. Russian authorities said the attack was carried out by Ukrainian armed forces.
Overnight into August 10, temporary flight restrictions were imposed at Nizhnekamsk's airport; Russia's federal aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, later reported that the restrictions had been lifted.
Nizhnekamsk is home to two major oil refining facilities: the Taneco complex, owned by Tatneft, and TAIF-NK. According to reporting by the outlet Vot Tak, Taneco had previously been struck by Ukrainian drones on four separate occasions, and TAIF-NK once.
Ukraine's General Staff later said that Ukrainian drones had struck the Taneco refinery in Nizhnekamsk, sparking a fire there.
