Uzbekistan's Ambassador to the UK met with the leadership of Manchester Airports Group (MAG) and discussed the possibility of launching direct flights between Tashkent and Manchester, as part of broader efforts to expand air links between the two countries.
At the meeting, the Ambassador Ravshan Usmonov and MAG's director of corporate affairs, Rhys Whalley, discussed developing transport links between the two countries and the prospects for launching direct flights on the Tashkent-Manchester route.
Rhys Whalley noted that Manchester Airport is one of the largest transport and logistics hubs in the north of England and in Northern Europe. Officials pointed out that the airport handles more than 32 million passengers a year, and that its existing infrastructure could support growth to as many as 70 million passengers in the future.
During the talks, both sides noted that the rapid development of Uzbekistan's aviation sector and the growing capabilities of local airlines are key factors that could support opening the new route.
Whalley said the new air link would help strengthen business and tourism ties between the two countries, while also expanding Uzbekistan's transit connections to Europe. He added that MAG was ready to support Uzbek airlines and provide the assistance needed to bring the project to fruition.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to work closely together to resolve the organizational matters involved in launching direct flights.
