The chief of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva toured several parks on Friday to review planned upgrades aimed at making them more accessible and user-friendly for residents. She was accompanied by Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov.
“Tashkent is expanding rapidly, but the city is facing a critical shortage of green spaces. Expanding our parks and urban greenery is now a matter of paramount importance,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
“Our main priority is to restore the capital’s status as a green city and maximize public spaces for active recreation and leisure. We must continue to develop accessible environments, boost greenery, ensure public safety, and utilize existing infrastructure effectively. This is a challenge we need to tackle immediately to guarantee a high quality of life for our citizens,” the Administration chief emphasized.
The first park due for transformation is the area surrounding the Oksaroy Residence, the former estate of Uzbekistan's first president, Islam Karimov. Mirziyoyeva announced that there are plans to "make this entire zone completely open to the public."
The project involves removing the high perimeter fences and comprehensively landscaping the grounds.
Upgrades are also planned for Sayilgoh Street and Amir Temur Avenue, along with their surrounding areas.
Another major initiative involves expanding Ecopark and the Mirzo Ulugbek Central Park. Based on the presented design concepts, plans are underway to merge the two parks into a single, unified green zone by redirecting the street that currently separates them underground.
