Uzbek diplomats have discussed simplifying visa procedures with representatives of Ethiopia and South Africa, the Dunyo news agency reported.
Reportedly, Uzbeki ambassador Ashraf Khodjaev held separate meetings with Ethiopia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera and Sandiwe Fadana, a representative of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation at South Africa's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for simplifying visa formalities for Uzbek nationals, easing the visa application process, and introducing a visa-free regime. Particular attention was given to creating more convenient conditions for travel between the countries' nationals.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the sides agreed that further simplifying visa procedures would help energize cooperation in tourism, trade and economic relations, and cultural and humanitarian fields.
Under the current rules, Uzbek nationals are required to obtain a visa to travel to South Africa. Applications for a South African visa must be submitted in advance, as visas are not issued on arrival at the airport. Applications from Uzbek nationals are typically processed through South Africa's embassy in Ankara. The visa is issued for tourism or business purposes and is valid for 90 days.
Uzbek nationals must also obtain a visa to travel to Ethiopia, though this can be arranged online through an e-Visa system without visiting an embassy in person.
