Long awaited reprieve from a punishing week of extreme heat Uzbekistan is expected, with temperatures expected to drop between July 20 and 24, Uzhydromet said.
During the peak of the heatwave, temperatures soared to 43–45°C (109–113°F), while the southern provinces and desert zones sweltered under a blistering 46–49°C (115–120°F). Relief began rolling into the northwest areas of the country yesterday.
The cooling trend is reaching the desert zones today and will expand nationwide tomorrow. While most of the country will remain dry, localized brief showers and thunderstorms are possible on July 21 in Karakalpakstan and on July 22 in the Fergana Valley.
High-altitude areas are also looking at isolated short-term rain and thunderstorms. For today, peak daytime highs will still hit 40–43°C (104–109°F), stretching to 45–47°C (113–117°F) in parts of the south, while the north enjoys cooler highs of 34–39°C (93–102°F).
From tomorrow through the end of the workweek, overnight lows will drop comfortably to 20–25°C (68–77°F). Daytime highs will level off at 32–37°C (90–99°F), dipping to 30°C (86°F) in some areas. Between July 20 and 22, winds are expected to pick up across the country to 13–18 m/s, with gusts potentially hitting 20–22 m/s in certain districts.
Tashkent will remain dry through the week. The capital will see a high of 41–43°C (106–109°F) today. Tomorrow, temperatures will shift to 25–27°C (77–81°F) at night and 36–38°C (97–100°F) during the day, before dropping to a pleasant 20–23°C (68–73°F) at night and 31–34°C (88–93°F) during the day from July 22 to 24.
