On Friday the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Thomas Shannon as part of his Uzbekistan visit went to Samarkand, where he laid a wreath at the tomb of the First President Islam Karimov. 

Thomas Shannon was accompanied by the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, the US Ambassador Pamela Spratlen and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Daniel Rosenblum.

In Samarkand, Thomas Shannon also visited a number of historical sites.

During the talks in Tashkent the US Under Secretary and Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other areas, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

In addition, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in the “C5 + 1" format and some international and regional issues.
