Uzbekistan has put forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2035-2036. The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN/Ambassador Ulugbek Lapasov addressed the meeting of the UN Security Council devoted to multilateralism and reforming global governance institutions and held under the chairmanship of China.

Uzbekistan reiterated its commitment to multilateralism, as well as its desire to strengthen and improve global governance. The importance of regional cooperation and interest in the economic recovery of Afghanistan were noted.

Ambassador Ulugbek Lapasov communicated Uzbekistan's readiness to expand cooperation with the UN in the fight against transnational threats, such as drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime.

He presented the Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy 2030, which focuses on economic sustainability, poverty reduction and youth empowerment.

Uzbekistan reaffirmed its strong commitment to global peace and security. In this context, he announced that Uzbekistan had put forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2035–2036.
