The Customs Committee will launch an online service for filling out passenger customs declarations when importing mobile phones to Uzbekistan, the spokesman to the Committee, Khusan Tangriev said.

On February 20, entrepreneur Oybek Shaikhov reported of big queues in the arrivals hall of the Tashkent Airport when registering mobile phones in the UzIMEI system.

“Now this process is mandatory and takes two stages (customs + UzIMEI), but only one employee works at the customs registration counter. We have been standing in line for over an hour already. The flight arrived at 4:30 am, now it is 6:26 am in the morning,” he wrote.

Officers of the Customs Committee, the Customs Control and Clearance Department, the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department, and officials of Tashkent Aero went to the scene to study the situation.

As previously reported, a new mobile phone being imported to Uzbekistan needs to be declared. Failure to do so will entail a customs duty of 30%.

Khusan Tangriev added that registering mobile phones directly at the airport is not mandatory. The IMEI code registration desk was opened for the convenience of passengers.

After filling out the passenger customs declaration, individuals have 30 days (for residents of Uzbekistan) and 60 days (for foreigners) to register devices in the UzIMEI system at a convenient time, he said.
