Seven officials of power and gas supply companies were arrested right in the meeting on countering utilities-related corruption in Samarkand, the press service of the Attorney General's Office said.

The Friday meeting chaired by the Deputy Attorney General, Shokhrukh Aminov discussed the identified corruption schemes and steps to turn the industry into a corruption-free area. Shokhrukh Aminov Amnov is also the head of the Republican Headquarters for the Coordination and Effective Organization of Government Oversight over the Use of Energy Resources.

Officials of the Regional Electric Networks and Khududgaztaminot, as well as their district and city branches, were present in the meeting.

Seven employees of utilities companies were arrested right in the meeting room on charges of corruption crimes.

The heads of energy companies were instructed to enhance oversight over the implementation of labor discipline and take tough measures to tackle corruption in the sector.
