Healthy Person, Healthy Nation nationwide movement will be launched in Uzbekistan, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a sports-related government meeting Thursday.
According to research, 44% of Uzbekistan’s population do not engage in leisure-time physical activity, and 36% do not eat healthy, the leader said.
“Low consumption of whole cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables, with growing salt and sugars intake, is of serious concern,” he added. As a result, 56% of Uzbeks are overweight, and 38% have high blood pressure. Non-communicable diseases are the cause of premature death.
The president instructed to outreach to every family promoting of healthy diets and physical activity. To this end, he proposed to prepare “popular and effective” social videos and broadcast them daily on central TV channels.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed to the need for legislative consolidation of these issues and instructed to completely swiftly revise the Physical Culture and Sports Law, taking into account modern trends.
He added that now in mahallas will host mass sports events every week with ratings assigned, and by the year-end the most active families will be awarded sports prizes, and sports grounds will be created in the best mahallas.
