A baby was born on board the Tashkent to New York flight of the Uzbekistan Airways today, the press service of the airline said in a statement.
"During the flight, one of the passengers went into labor. The foreman, having assessed the situation, asked if there was a doctor on board over the loudspeaker. The passengers - an obstetrician and a surgeon - responded to the call for help. After some time, the passenger gave birth to a boy," the report said.
The crew decided to make an emergency landing in the city of Keflavik (Iceland). After a safe landing, doctors came on board to provide the necessary assistance. The mother and newborn were taken to a local clinic.
The birth of the child coincided with the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the airline. Uzbekistan Airways congratulated the family of the newborn and voiced gratitude to the crew and medical staff for their professionalism and well-coordinated work.
