Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan. The information was confirmed by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
"Plane operating a scheduled Baku to Grozny flight crashed near the city of Aktau. This plane belongs to Azerbaijan Airlines," the statement said.
The Embraer E190 was diverted to Makhachkala and then to Aktau due to fogs in Grozny, the press service of the Makhachkala airport told RIA Novosti.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 52 personnel and 11 units of equipment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan arrived in Aktau at the scene of the plane crash.
"Upon arrival, the aircraft was found to be on fire. Rescue units began extinguishing the fire. Information about the victims is currently being clarified, preliminary reports indicate that there are survivors," the ministry said.
Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova reported six survivors who were "in extremely serious condition." It was later reported that 12 people (one of them a child) with various injuries were taken from the crash site to the Mangistau regional hospital in Aktau, Tengrinews.kz said.
There were reportedly 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. There are 14 ambulance crews working at the scene.
