President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today hosted the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi and discussed the perspectives for a radical expansion of bilateral cooperation and the promotion of new areas of cooperation.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the IAEA since 1994. During this period, more than 40 joint projects have been implemented with the technical assistance of IAEA. Currently, 5 projects are being implemented in the field of improving the legal framework and potential of national structures, developing nuclear science, medicine and other areas.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly valued the outcomes of the meetings and events held today by the IAEA delegation in the ministries, departments and scientific institutions of Uzbekistan. The parties commended the joint holding of the International Conference on the Use of Atomic Energy, which will take place on December 5 in the city of Samarkand with the participation of leading foreign experts in the industry.

They identified enhancing the competence and potential of national agencies, training highly qualified personnel, and promising projects in the field of nuclear energy, agriculture, water management, healthcare, and ecology within the framework of IAEA programs as the priority areas of bilateral cooperation and reached an agreement to adopt a joint “road map” for expanding multifaceted cooperation in the development of peaceful nuclear energy.
