Another death of a child at an unregulated pedestrian crossing occurred in the Khatyrchi district of Navoi province. The footage of the tragedy circulated on social networks.
The provincial traffic police department said that the accident occurred on July 1 at approximately 19:20. A BYD Song Plus E-SUV hit an 8-year-old girl, a 2nd grade student, at the 127th kilometer of the 4R48 two-lane highway.
The footage shows that two Song Plus cars at high speed, approaching the pedestrian crossing, continued driving without slowing down, although there were pedestrians, including children, at the crossing.
First, one car passed the crossing, causing a girl walking along the crossing to fall onto the road. The car behind her ran into her. The girl died on the spot.
Earlier, the Senate reported that 65 schoolchildren were killed and about 300 were injured as a result of road accidents in the first five months of this year in Uzbekistan.
