Some moves to address dust storms and mitigate their consequences are being promoted in the draft 2024 state program.

According to the draft, from March 1, 2024:

  • when a dust storm occurs in a province and when it is found that fine dispersed particles in the air are higher than the norm, the practice of constantly informing the public, especially those suffering from heart, blood vessel and respiratory diseases, about the necessary preventive measures is established;
  • in construction area of 500 square meters and over, mandatory requirements are introduced to eliminate the rising of dust and sand particles into the air on the ingress and egress roads;
  • N2, N3, O4 category cargo motor vehicles with a permissible total weight of more than 10 tons, is prohibited at on-peak times; however, this restriction shal not apply to special service vehicles, including utility, landscaping and military vehicles.

vehicles that do not comply with Euro-5 and higher standards may be gradually restricted in the cities of Tashkent and Nukus, provincial centers until 2030.

Also, it is proposed to launch Car-Free Day one business day per month aimed at reducing car traffic.

In this regard, leaders and employees of all republican and provincial executive bodies whose premises are located in Tashkent city are required to set an example to the public by coming to the workplace on public transport.
