The Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon will visit Uzbekistan as part of his first visit to the Central Asian countries, October 24-29.
According to a statement of the US State Department’s press office, in Tashkent Thomas Shannon will meet with senior government officials, business and civil society leaders. He will also visit the cultural heritage sites in Samarkand including Registan, and the burial place of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
The talks planned in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are aimed at strengthening the partnership ties of the United States with the countries of the region through C5+1 initiative, a platform for discussions and joint regional actions on issues of common interest.
